Firefox memory “leaks”

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen complaints about “Firefox memory problems”. I’ve even seen posts that talk about how many hits you get in Google for something like “Firefox memory leak” and how that must mean there’s a real problem.

Here’s a typical complaint:

firefox’s memory usage has always been a thorn in my side. I tend to average around 20 to 25 tabs open, usually while I’m running other ram hungry applications. Firefox generally was eating up about 200-250 megs of ram on my machine

Listen, genius, just how much RAM do you want it to be using when you’ve got an average of 25 tabs open? Have you even tried having 25 tabs open with a different browser? Do they use much less memory with the same 25 pages open with the same page histories?

I just want to say that I’ve never had any problems with Firefox, and it’s my favorite browser. If you really think it’s using too much memory, spend $25 and add a 256MB stick to your machine.

I’m not shure about memory leaks in firefox. But it is really greedy one! I was using it for a long time on Windows and Linux. And now I’m using opera (on Ubuntu Breezy). For example - I have ~ 40 tabs opened and 50mb RAM used (I’ve determined this using top). As for firefox - it takes 272mb RAM and feels much more slower in such conditions!

So I’m not agry with you “success” firefox story. I see that opera is fast and light browser. And I can’t tell something similar about the firefox.

    Sorry for bad English:)

The problem is that the memory is not released even though all but one tab/browser winfow are closed. I can have the firefox.exe process take 250mb without any tabs open if I have been surfing for a while.

ps. I came here because I was browsing today’s expired domains and noticed the yalb.com has expired and will be deleted from the registry today on 27th. If you are interested, try to grab it with some service like snapnames.com, namewinner.com or enom.com club drop. cheers.
